$1.5M Caye Caulker Police Station Coming Soon
After weeks of controversy, the one-point-five-million-dollar police station on Caye Caulker is back on track. The project, part of the sixty-million-dollar Belize Integral Security Program, promises upgraded facilities, including a domestic violence unit, secure evidence storage, and private interview rooms to better serve both residents and tourists. Today, Area Representative Andre Perez confirmed that construction is set to resume, signaling a fresh push to get the long-delayed project moving forward.

“ It has continued. And that is a long run issue there right now. That land is for the government of Belize, for the police station. It’s coming along. Look, I mentioned something here. I am quite appreciate the sentiment of the people, right? But rest assured that all the funding that is there is going to go for the police station the right way. And I want to remind even the public of the issues with the police barracks that was built in the last administration. It was supposed to have been a barracks that was used with two million to build the quarters for the police, and if you look at that building right now, it’s not even worth eight hundred thousand. Where those funds went, we do not know. You guys can take a look at the police the quarters where they live in quarters. It’s a terrible building, and that just was done maybe just two years before the change of government. That is a shame. So I want you all to focus on that. While the police station, we want to do something better for the police department, And I agree, and I support it. That’s it. It’s a past and they don’t want their police station at the entrance of the town, that’s fine. But just a reminder of history, of the wasted funds that could have been something much better for the police department.”
Minister of Home Affairs, Oscar Mira, noted that the new Caye Caulker police substation is expected to significantly improve working conditions for officers while strengthening security for both residents and the many visitors who come to the island.
