2025 Japan Expo: ‘A Shared Cultural Experience’
While Belize strengthens diplomatic ties across the Caribbean and Latin America, it is also enhancing its presence across the globe through its rich rhythm, colour, and culture. Belize took on the global stage over the weekend at the 2025 Japan Expo in Osaka, as part of its growing investment in the Orange Economy, also known as the creative economy.
“It was an opportunity to walk around and interact with our brothers and sisters from neighbouring Caribbean countries, Latin American countries, and even some of the West African countries,” said steelpan performer Alex Evans, who formed part of the Belizean contingent.
Evans said he played steelpan alongside musicians from Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua and Barbuda and joined drum circles with artists from Guinea, Mali, and Burkina Faso. “It was a moment to converse with people from these other countries that have a shared historical experience and a shared cultural experience and to communicate in that way,” he said.
