21-Year-Old Arrested for Attempted for Attempted Murder

Police have made a breakthrough in a brazen city shooting that left one man fighting for his life. A twenty-one-year-old suspect is now behind bars, charged with attempted murder after gunmen opened fire on a young worker in Belize City earlier this week. Investigators say twenty-five-year-old Maleek Sutherland was simply on his way to work when an SUV pulled up beside him on Cleghorn Street and a passenger began shooting. Sutherland was hit and rushed to the hospital, while police moved quickly to detain one suspect and hunt down others believed to be involved. Tonight, authorities say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests could follow. ASP Stacy Smith has the details.

“As a consequence of the investigation into the shooting incident which resulted in the injury of Maleek Sutherland, which occurred on Monday, twenty-fifth May, twenty twenty-six in Belize City, police formally arrested and charged twenty-one-year-old Jadon Young for the crimes of attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm.”

 

At this time, police are still seeking a motive for the crime.
