23 New Peace Corps Volunteers Sworn In Across Belize

Twenty-three new Peace Corps Volunteers were sworn in during a ceremony in Belmopan. 

The dual-sector cohort includes 15 Youth Development Volunteers, the fourth group to serve under the Youth Empowered by Sports (YES) Project, and eight Education Volunteers serving as Peace Corps Response Volunteers. 

The YES Project runs in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations, using sports, mentorship and resiliency-building to support young people. During training, volunteers completed technical preparation aligned with those goals alongside cultural and language immersion in Kriol or Spanish. 

The Education Volunteers will work with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology and PathLight International on STEAM initiatives, early childhood education and literacy support.

The ceremony comes as the Peace Corps marks its 65th anniversary and ties into the America250 “America Gives” initiative promoting American volunteerism.The latest cohort will now be deployed across all six districts.
