35 Young Women Complete Girls in Governance Leadership Camp

Thirty-five young women from across Belize have completed the Girls in Governance Leadership Camp. This was a six-day residential programme hosted by the Department of Youth Services (DYS) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The camp was designed to equip participants with leadership, governance and advocacy skills while building their confidence to become changemakers in their communities.

Participants received training in women in leadership, democratic processes, public speaking, digital literacy, media engagement and entrepreneurship. They also developed personal leadership plans aimed at creating positive change in their communities.

The programme also featured hands-on entrepreneurship activities, with participants designing Belize-inspired products, creating eco-art from recycled materials and learning branding and marketing skills to promote economic empowerment.

According to DYS and UNDP, the initiative supports efforts to expand opportunities for young women to participate in leadership and decision-making while promoting more inclusive governance and sustainable national development.
