75 People From Around the World Became Belizean Citizens
Seventy-five people from across the world officially became citizens of Belize on Thursday.
The citizenship ceremony brought together government officials, family members and friends to witness candidates take the Oath of Allegiance and formally join the Belizean family.
The 75 new Belizeans trace their origins to Honduras, El Salvador, Germany, the United States, Jamaica, Bolivia, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Cuba, Mexico, Canada and Venezuela.
Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Immigration Kareem Musa said Belize understands migration because movement is deeply woven into its national story.
“Citizenship affirms that belonging to Belize is defined by participation, responsibility, and contribution,” Musa said, urging the new citizens to embrace civic duty and national unity.
He noted that many of those sworn in are already contributing to Belize through agriculture, tourism, construction, education, healthcare, small business and community life.
“Within Belize’s 8,867 square miles, some choose to remain, to settle, and to build a life grounded in community rather than transit,” Musa added.
Following the address, the Supreme Court administered the Oath of Allegiance, officially granting citizenship to the candidates.
“Welcome home, my fellow Belizeans,” Musa said.
