97 Youths Complete UNFPA Leadership Camp Aimed at Reducing Adolescent Pregnancy

Nearly one hundred young people from across three districts spent part of their summer building leadership and life skills through a training camp designed to help them become advocates in their own communities.

Ninety-seven youth participants from Belize, Stann Creek, and Toledo districts took part in the “Let’s Be Leaders!” Youth Training Camp, a joint initiative of the United Nations Population Fund and the Department of Youth Services. The four-day residential programme was delivered across three separate weekends, giving participants practical knowledge, skills, and confidence to step into leadership and advocacy roles back home.

The camp falls under the “Let’s Be Clear” campaign, part of the broader “Leave No One Behind: Reduction of Adolescent Pregnancy” project, funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Government of Ireland through Irish Aid.

Throughout the four days, participants moved through a mix of interactive educational sessions, leadership training, and cultural activities, all designed to create a safe and supportive space where young people could build self-confidence, form meaningful connections with peers, and think critically about their own decision-making.

The camp also tied directly into the goals of the Let’s Be Clear campaign, which works to expand access to accurate, age-appropriate information on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and healthy relationships while encouraging young people to advocate for their own wellbeing and that of others around them.
