Kolbe CEO George Gomez Out After Just Seven Weeks

After just seven weeks in the post, George Gomez is out as Chief Executive Officer of the Kolbe Foundation. News Five has confirmed that Francis Woods is now acting CEO while the foundation searches for a permanent replacement. But Gomez’s sudden departure raises obvious questions: why did his time at Kolbe end so quickly, and what direction will Woods take while he holds the reins? Today, we put those questions to the acting CEO.

On the Phone: Francis Woods, Acting CEO, Kolbe Foundation

“The situation is that Mr. Gomez is no longer here at the Kolbe Foundation. This  organization have seen many CEOs come and go and it has benefited from all the positives that CEOs have brought to us at the Kolbe Foundation. Mr. Gomez, all the positive stuff that he started here will continue and we thank him for the service here.”

“In terms of a reason for his dismissal, are you able to disclose that at this time?”

On the Phone: Francis Woods

“It just was not working out. I am only acting CEO right now until we find a permanent CEO. Yes I have been here since the inception of the Kolbe Foundation, so I am aware of the procedures here. But it is definitely a temporary deal. The main goal is to keep with our mission, a humane, secure, facility, geared towards meaningful rehabilitation and reintegration. That is our main goal.”

In a press release today, Gomez reflected on his stint at the foundation and his contributions to advancing its vision. He concluded by noting that the reason for his dismissal was not shared with him.
