Miguelito Encalada Gets Two Life Sentences for Double Murder  

Miguelito Encalada will spend at least forty years in prison for the murders of his wife, Desiree Elizabeth Gonzalez, and his younger brother, George Vincent Rochester. Justice Candace Nanton sentenced the Ladyville man to two life terms after he was convicted of the April twentieth, 2023, double murder on Scissors Tail Street in the New Site area. The sentences will run at the same time and have been backdated to April twenty-fourth, 2023, when Encalada was first remanded. Before sentencing, Encalada offered condolences to both families but insisted he is innocent. He told the court, “I am not behind this crime. I am not the shooter.” Justice Nanton said the crime ranked among the most serious murders before the court. She pointed to the use of a firearm, the close-range killing, the loss of two lives, and the fact that both victims were close relatives. The judge started at forty-two years but deducted two years for mitigating factors, including Encalada’s clean prison record, rehabilitation efforts, and positive reports about his role as a father and mentor. During trial, Encalada claimed gunmen entered his business, threatened him, robbed him of eight thousand dollars, and left his loved ones dead on the floor. He was represented by attorney Hurl Hamilton. Crown Counsel Glenfield Dennison prosecuted the case for the DPP’s office.
