Meet Jimothy: The Raccoon Who Accidentally Became the Internet’s Biggest Star
A raccoon with a unique appearance has gone from a neighborhood animal to one of the internet’s newest celebrities.
Known as “Jimothy,” the raccoon became a viral sensation after Seattle resident Kiana Hall recorded a video of him walking through the Ballard neighborhood and shared it online.
In the video, Hall appeared surprised by the unusual-looking animal and later explained that she gave him the name Jimothy because “he just looked like a Jimothy.”
The clip quickly gained millions of views, with social media users drawn to the raccoon’s short, round body and distinctive appearance.
Experts believe Jimothy may have a rare condition called short spine syndrome, a genetic condition that affects the development of the spine. Despite his unusual shape, the raccoon appears healthy and active as he moves around his Seattle neighborhood.
Jimothy’s popularity has quickly spread beyond social media. A mural honoring Jimothy has also been created in his neighborhood, while fans have produced artwork, memes, merchandise, and even tattoos dedicated to the raccoon.
