Firefighters Beat Back Flames at Abdo Building

A late-night fire at the Abdo Building on Sunday could have caused far more damage, but quick action by firefighters kept the flames from spreading. The blaze broke out at a business on the ground floor of the building, where several other businesses operate and apartments sit above. Police say fire personnel moved in quickly and contained the fire before it could reach neighboring establishments or the upper floor. Tonight, investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze. ASP Stacy Smith has the details.

“On Sunday, twenty-sixth July 2026, at approximately twelve forty-four a.m., police control room was advised of a fire at the corner of Albert and Orange Street. CIB personnel responded, and upon their arrival, they met with fire officials who had already began extinguishing the fire. What we have learned so far in the course of the investigation is that the owner of the Store reported that he left his property, and he was only alerted that, you know, a fire occurred, and he visited and made the observation. He stated that the building is one that he rents. However, the contents are his, and they are insured.”

 

Authorities are awaiting the National Fire Service’s report to establish whether the blaze resulted from an electrical malfunction or was deliberately ignited.
