New GOB Platform Matches Applicants with Vacancies
For many Belizeans, applying for a government job has often meant paperwork, waiting and uncertainty. Now, the Government of Belize says it wants to make that process easier. A new online job portal has been launched to help modernize recruitment in the public service. Through the upgraded platform, job seekers can upload their resumes, view vacancies and be matched with positions that fit their qualifications. Minister of Public Service Henry Charles Usher says the portal comes with more storage, smarter features and forms part of a wider push to improve how government serves both the public and public officers.

“So we had a job portal before, but what we found was that the space that was available was not enough. We had persons who were submitting their resumes, who were applying for jobs, but it got crowded and it came down often so we had to continuously have to buy additional space. Now, with the services being provided and the improvements being made, we’ve opened a new job portal with more space and more features so that persons can go in there, see what jobs are available, upload their resumes, et cetera, and also, a feature that I am particularly happy for is one where if there is a vacancy for a particular skill, it can actually look and to see if persons have submitted a resume with that particular skill and try to match them so that we could maybe contact the person without that person having to say, “I’m interested in the job.” We are moving forward with the modernization, and it’s a project that I think is important for the overall services that government provides. The overall services in terms of in the ministries, both to civilians or citizens, and also to public officers ’cause the Ministry of Public Service our main customers are public officers and we have to be able to respond to their needs more efficiently as well when it comes to taking leave promotions, transfers, et cetera. We have to be able to respond to those more effectively. So this process will help both areas.”
The new portal is one of many modernization initiatives under the Inter-American Development Bank’s US eight-million-dollar loan to improve public sector efficiency, transparency and digital integration.
