“Life Could Be So Short”: Community Remembers PC Armando Toledano After Fatal Crash En Route to Duty

A Belize City police officer is being remembered as a devoted mentor, a patient trainer, and a man looking forward to retirement after he was killed in a traffic collision Saturday afternoon while on his way to work.

The victim has been identified as PC Armando Toledano. The incident happened near Biscayne Village. He was heading to the Raccoon Street Police Station in Belize City for this shift.

News of his death has drawn an outpouring of tributes online, with residents describing personal encounters with him both on and off duty. One woman said she and her daughter spent hours speaking with Toledano while he was on the job, describing him as an officer who genuinely loved his work and was counting down the years to retirement.”It was so good that I and my daughter Celenia got the chance to spend about 3 hr talking to him at his job, and he shared his life story as an officer; really, life could be so short. RIP PC. You are one of the officers that love their job; he even told us that he has grandkids and was looking forward to his retirement because he had so many years. Life is surely short.”

Another person said the department should consider providing housing for officers who travel far to reach work each day. “It’s so hard for those officers to have to travel so far to reach work. The department needs to look into this; just provide housing for the police who have to commute every day. It’s hard for them. Rip, sir.”

A former cadet trained by Toledano, remembered him as one of the best instructors she had. “Best cadet trainer. RIP, Mr Toledano. You were always so patient and understanding with us, your past trainees.”
