Pomona Farmer Formally Charged With Aggravated Assault Following Shooting

Police have formally arrested and charged Richard Cal of Stann Creek District with three counts of aggravated assault following a shooting incident on a farm road. Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith stated that the charges stem from a report made by three officers who encountered Cal at around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, 6 August 2026, while conducting surveillance in Pomona village.

According to ASP Smith, Cal produced a licensed firearm during the interaction and fired upon the officers. The officers returned fire, resulting in Cal receiving a gunshot wound to the leg.

Cal was transported for medical attention following the shooting. Crime scene technicians processed the area and retrieved several items of evidential value.

Smith stated that Cal was given an opportunity to present his version of events during an interview. She noted that he provided minimal details.
