Nine New Officers Can Now Ticket You for Littering in Placencia

Think twice before tossing a bottle, food container, a wrapper or any other waste on the ground.

The Department of the Environment (DOE) has appointed nine officers in Placencia who are now authorised to issue violation tickets for littering offences.

The appointments are part of the Government’s National Anti-Littering Campaign, which aims to reduce visible litter in key areas of Belize by 30% within two years.

The officers were appointed under the Summary Jurisdiction (Littering Offences) (Violation Tickets) Regulations.

The DOE says littering remains a frequent offence and a major environmental concern. The newly authorised officers will help enforce existing laws by issuing tickets to people caught littering.

“These appointments are the first of a national initiative where training and authorisation of new littering officers will be carried out countrywide,” DOE said in a statement.

Residents and visitors are also being urged to dispose of their waste properly and report littering incidents.
