No Lights For Hoopers Staying on Right Path
A basketball court, a ball and a group of young men determined to make the best of what they have. Last night, a video showed these youths playing basketball at the St. John’s court with barely enough light to see the basket. They say they are not asking for much, just lights, so they can safely continue using the court at night. For some of these young men, the court is more than recreation. It is a positive outlet in an area where young people can easily find themselves on the wrong path. And for some, opportunities have recently become even more limited following the closure of the Leadership Intervention Unit’s jobs program. Now, they are reaching out to the community asking anyone who can help install or provide lighting for the court to step forward. Because for these young men, a little light could mean much more than being able to see the basketball hoop. It could help keep them focused, active and on the right path.
