Belize Studies Jamaica’s Trade System to Speed Up Its Own Digital Overhaul

Belize has completed a four-day exchange with the Jamaica Customs Agency aimed at speeding up work on its own Electronic Single Window for Trade, a digital system meant to streamline border and trade processes.

The exchange is part of the Trade and Investment Facilitation Program, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank and run through the Ministry of Finance. Officials studied Jamaica’s existing system, known as JSWIFT, to apply lessons learned to Belize’s own rollout.

Belize’s delegation included representatives from the Directorate General for Foreign Trade, Customs and Excise, the Belize Agricultural Health Authority, the Central Information Technology Office, and the Ministry of Finance. The group is responsible for building and testing the new system before it goes live.

The initiative is part of a broader government push to modernise trade and border operations, with the Belize Fisheries Department, the Ministry of Health’s Pharmaceutical Division, and the Supplies Control Unit also involved in the effort.
