Kareem Garcia Dead; Is Cotton Tree Murder Connected to Santa Elena?
A brazen daylight attack has claimed another life in the Cayo District and raises fears that the recent bloodshed may be connected. Twenty-three-year-old Unitedville resident Kareem Garcia was working alongside several colleagues at a road construction site in Cotton Tree Village when two men reportedly rode up on a motorcycle and opened fire in his direction. Garcia died in the attack, while the gunmen fled the scene. The investigation is still in its early stages, but police are now exploring whether this deadly shooting is linked to the weekend’s double murder in Santa Elena.

“What has been learnt so far in the course of this investigation is that Garcia was along with coworkers in Cotton Tree Village when he was approached by two male persons on a motorcycle and one of those male persons produced a firearm and fired several shots at Mr. Garcia fatally injuring him. Mr. Garcia was doing construction work as a part of the MIDH construction going on in that area.”

“We have not established a motive so far. But Mr. Garcia is known to police. He has a matter before the court.”

“Is it directly related to the murder on Saturday with Mr. Hyde in Santa Elena?”

“It is a very young investigation. We have not been able to establish a nexus between these incidents. However, we are cognizant of the factors at play in that area in relation to the sale of drugs. That is angle being pursued. However we have no conclusive position so far.”
