Ministry Completes Audit Into Missing Funds at Louisiana Government School

The Ministry of Education has completed its audit into thousands of dollars reportedly missing from Louisiana Government School’s accounts in Orange Walk Town and is now working to determine whether anyone should be held responsible.

The audit follows a June report by News Five that first raised questions about financial irregularities at the school. Minister of Education Francis Fonseca confirmed the audit’s completion, citing a briefing from the Chief Education Officer and the school’s general manager.

“The last briefing I got on that from the Chief Education Officer and the general manager was that it had been completed, and that they were going to have meetings with a number of people, the principal, a bursar, and a number of people who work in finance there. So I don’t know if they’ve had that meeting yet, but I know they’re following up on the audit to make sure that if there was any misappropriation that took place, they would make sure that those who were involved would be held responsible.”

No findings from the audit have been publicly released, and Fonseca did not specify a timeline for when accountability meetings or any resulting action would be finalised.
