Two families are mourning the loss of a couple killed in a motorcycle crash on the Philip Goldson Highway near Mile Five on Wednesday morning.

Joseph Williams, 32, and Sherlene Rodriguez, 42, collided with a BMW driven by 22-year-old Pedro Espat. Williams was pronounced dead on arrival at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Rodriguez died later while receiving treatment.

Williams was pronounced dead on arrival at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, and Rodriguez later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.

The couple had recently bought the motorcycle and were heading to Belize City to purchase vehicle parts. Williams’s aunt, Joy Francisco, described her nephew as a careful driver.

“He was a nice person… He have his vehicle and he noh drive fast, he have his motorcycle, and noh drive fast either,” Fransisco said. “So, when I  heard the news, it was so shocking.”

She added, “All I want tell the driver, have some respect for the people deh on motorcycle as well. And be careful pan di road.”

According to Williams’ family, thieves burglarised his home the same night Williams died.

Rodriguez’s aunt, Faith Flores, said the news was devastating. Flores, who raised Rodriguez from birth, recalled initially seeing reports of the crash on Facebook without knowing her niece was involved.

Both families are now left grieving the couple’s sudden deaths.

Police say Espat provided a urine sample for alcohol testing and was served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
