Belmopan Terminal Gets an Upgrade, Belize City Waits

Belmopan’s bus terminal has received a much-needed facelift. Now, commuters want to know when Belize City will get the same treatment. As the Ministry of Transport unveiled the improvements this morning, we asked Minister Doctor Louis Zabaneh whether the two-point-five-million dollars approved by Cabinet earlier this year will help transform the country’s busiest terminal.

“The works are pretty much finished now in Belmopan which has seen the paving of the parking area for the buses. That was always a mess, and it is the case at all of our terminals. People coming out of the buses have to hopping over pools and so forth. Now it is beautifully paved, cemented, with lines for the buses to be parked in an orderly way with inside the terminal we have nice seating, booth for the ticketing agents. The bathrooms are finally being completed now and so with air-conditioning inside the terminal. So that is to enhance the experience of our commuters as they move from point A to point B. In terms of Belize City, we already started renovations in the ticketing area, the first part of the terminal. The plan for Belize City, we have already identified about seven acres of land on Chetumal Boulevard in the Lake Independence Area near the Eleanor Hall Building where a new, state of the art terminal, will be built. Because of that we are not going to do the paving of the parking area in Belize City.”

 

Belize City’s bus terminal bathrooms are finally getting some attention. Minister Zabaneh says the facilities will be upgraded as work on the terminal begins.
