Trump’s Map Puts Belize Under U.S. Flag
U.S. President Donald Trump has shared a map depicting Belize and other countries across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean under the United States flag.
Trump posted the image on his Truth Social account without a caption or explanation. The map shows the U.S. flag extending across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Iceland, Central America and parts of the Caribbean, with the area labelled “United States of America.”
Belize appears under the U.S. flag alongside Guatemala, Honduras and other Central American countries.
The post drew a response from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who reaffirmed her country’s sovereignty without naming Trump directly. She wrote on X that Mexico “is not and will not be a colony or protectorate of any foreign country,” describing Mexico as free, independent, and sovereign.
The map was posted just days after André Bauer arrived in Belize as the newly appointed U.S. ambassador. Bauer arrived on September 4 and presented his credentials to Governor General Froyla Tzalam on September 7.
