DPP to Decide Charges in Fisherman’s Fatal Motorcycle Crash
A police file into the death of 25-year-old fisherman Lorenzo Castro will be sent to the officer of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The DPP will then determine whether charges are laid in connection with last Thursday night’s fatal collision in Orange Walk Town.
Police say Castro was riding a motorcycle in Orange Walk Town when it collided with a white van driven by 61-year-old Antonio Novelo.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, the collision occurred at the corner of Muñoz Street and Otro Benque Road. Police say the van was changing lanes when the motorcycle collided with it.
Castro, of Guinea Grass Village, was taken for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. “I know that the motorcyclist was not licensed or insured,” Romero confirmed.
An investigation is being carried out, and a NIP was served on Novelo,” Romero added. “Urine sample was obtained, and we will compile a file and send it to the DPP for directives.”
