Family Left Homeless After Belize City Fire

A fire destroyed a home on T Street, Belize City, late at night, leaving Ashlyn Diaz and her family without a place to stay after losing their belongings.

Diaz said she was inside the house when the fire started. She managed to get outside and, when she looked back, the house was already in flames.

Diaz said she was unable to save her belongings and suffered a burn to her hand while escaping.

Diaz’s sister, Asia August, was not at the house when the fire started. August said no one was injured.

The family believes the fire was intentional, although August said no police report had been filed at the time.

The family is seeking assistance with clothing, household items and materials, including wood, to help rebuild. Diaz said she is currently looking for somewhere to stay.
