Belize’s Flagship Hospital Celebrates 31st Anniversary

For thirty-one years, the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital has cared for Belizeans during some of their most difficult moments. But this week, the hospital is turning its attention to the doctors, nurses and support staff who keep its doors open and its services running. Anniversary activities began today with a church service, followed by a week of raffles, giveaways and fellowship. The celebration culminates on Friday with an official ceremony, staff awards and karaoke. KHMH Chief Executive Officer Sherine Reyes says the milestone is an opportunity to recognize and give back to the hospital’s workforce.

“We’re celebrating our thirty-first anniversary. Today is the start of the event where we had a church ceremony. We’re having some giveaways for the staff. We’re having raffle entire day today, tomorrow. We’re having a sports day on Thursday. And on Friday we’re having our grand finale where we’ll be having a closing ceremony. Our Board of Directors will be there, additional invited guests. And we’re also having a karaoke competition at the finalize the end of the day. It’s a collective effort. All the different departments are partaking in the event. We have all the directors having different activities that they’re control of. They have their group of persons and we had a very good turnout at the church ceremony this morning. I’m guessing everybody was there for their blessings and just supporting each other noh and we do work hard here at KHMH, everybody from the cleaner right up to the top. So we could see that they’re very happy to be getting something back in return for all their hard work and dedication that they give to KHMH.”
