Honduran Jeweller Killed During Scrap Gold Meeting
Forty-three-year-old Honduran national Dennis Gurvara was in the Fabers Road area of Belize City on Wednesday evening buying scrap gold and other jewellery when he was shot and killed.
Residents say Gurvara was not from the neighbourhood but had been going door to door asking if anyone had scrap gold or other jewellery to sell.
Police say Gurvara had been asked to meet someone in the area. ACP Hilberto Romero says, “The information we get is that he used to purchase scrap gold and someone asked to meet him there, and thereafter the person asked him for monies and thereafter he was shot.”
Romero says Gurvara was approached by a male person who fired several shots in his direction, causing his fatal injuries. Gurvara was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police are now searching the area for surveillance footage and other evidence as they work to determine who killed Gurvara.
