DJ Tash Takes Belize to the Caribbean Music Awards 2026
Representing Belize on a Regional Stage
Today’s episode of Open Your Eyes welcomed Belizean DJ Tash following her second consecutive nomination for the Caribbean Music Awards 2026. Fresh from a three-day awards experience in Trinidad and Tobago, DJ Tash shared what it meant to represent Belize alongside some of the Caribbean’s biggest artists, DJs, producers, and entertainers.
The three-day event began with a welcome reception and meet-and-greet, giving nominees and industry professionals an opportunity to network and build connections across the region. Saturday featured the red carpet and official awards ceremony, while Sunday wrapped up the weekend with the “Stars and Steel Pan” concert, celebrating Trinidad and Tobago’s contribution to Caribbean music and culture.
Breaking Barriers as a Female DJ
For DJ Tash, reaching the regional stage represents years of determination and overcoming challenges in a predominantly male-dominated music industry. She reflected on the difficulties of establishing herself as a female DJ in Belize and emphasized the importance of staying focused, learning from mistakes, and continuing forward.
Her journey also took her beyond Belize through opportunities to work on cruise ships. She credited those experiences with allowing her to showcase Belizean culture, connect with people from across the Caribbean, and expand her professional network.
Networking Beyond the Awards
While being surrounded by major Caribbean personalities was initially nerve-racking, DJ Tash said she made a conscious effort to step outside her comfort zone and connect with people she encountered throughout the weekend.
From artists and DJs to producers and regional personalities, she used the opportunity to build relationships that could open doors for future opportunities across the Caribbean.
One of her standout encounters was with Miss Universe, whom she described as welcoming and encouraging during the three-day event. The interaction helped DJ Tash feel more comfortable and encouraged her to embrace the experience rather than feel out of place.
Inspired to Put Belize on More Caribbean Stages
DJ Tash also spoke about the impact of seeing fellow Belizean entertainer Shine receive the Global Ambassador Award. Hearing Shine speak about Belize, his career, and the country’s culture gave her a strong sense of pride and reinforced the importance of Belizeans representing their country on regional platforms.
She said the experience motivated her to see more Belizean DJs and artists pursuing opportunities throughout the Caribbean. For DJ Tash, the goal is not only to bring regional talent to Belize but also to see Belizean talent performing and building connections throughout other Caribbean countries.
Looking Ahead
With the Caribbean Music Awards nomination marking her second consecutive nomination, DJ Tash is continuing to build her presence within the regional music industry. The winner of the Best International Female DJ category had not yet been announced at the time of the interview.
As she looks ahead, DJ Tash hopes the connections made during the awards weekend will lead to more opportunities to perform, collaborate, and represent Belize across the Caribbean.
She also acknowledged the support that helped make her trip possible, thanking Holistica Belize, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Kareem Musa, Hon. Cordel Hyde, and the Belize Tourism Board.
