Cuba Leaves UN Assembly After Trump Calls It a ‘Failed State’
The Cuban delegation walked out of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump turned his attention to Cuba during his address and criticised its communist government.
“My administration is also seeking a fundamental change in the situation in Cuba, where the communist regime is under great pressure, the biggest pressure they’ve ever been under. It’s an absolutely failed state. It’s failing like never before, and it will fall,” Trump said.
Trump added that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was handling negotiations with Cuba and was “deep into negotiations”.
He also accused the Cuban government of coordinating with what he described as left-wing and communist networks in the United States.
“Communism will never be coming to America, but freedom will be coming to Cuba,” Trump said.
Trump’s comments on Cuba came after he discussed US military action against drug cartels in the region and his administration’s efforts to increase US military power in the Western Hemisphere.
