13 New Medical Interns Begin Their Journey at KHMH
The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) has welcomed 13 new orientees into the Ministry of Health and Wellness’s Medical Internship Program, a one-year training pathway for recently graduated doctors working toward full licensure in Belize.
The interns will train under experienced KHMH doctors across multiple disciplines, from the wards to the operating theatre, including emergency medicine, and internal medicine.
The national referral hospital said in an online statement that the programme is built on hands-on clinical exposure. “Learning by doing, guided by mentors who are as invested in their growth as they are in patient care,” it said.

Images of the new orientees show the cohort being toured through the facility, with KHMH describing it as “the beginning of a transformative year that will shape the next generation of Belizean doctors.”
Earlier this month, KHMH also celebrated 31 years of service with the the opening of two new units, including an expanded Hemodialysis Unit.
