Belize Launches Nine-Month Climate Education Campaign
Belize has launched a nine-month national campaign aimed at helping the public better understand climate change and how Belize is preparing for and responding to its impacts.
The Belize Climate Ready Campaign was launched on September 23 by the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management, in collaboration with UNDP Belize and with support from EUROCLIMA.
The campaign will provide information on Belize’s climate commitments, the role of the Climate Change Department and the legal and institutional framework supporting national climate action.
Chief Climate Change Officer Edalmi Pinelo said the department wants to make its work easier for communities to understand by reducing the technical language, acronyms and terminology often associated with climate policy.
“It is a very technical department, so we take the opportunity through this campaign to reduce the jargon, the acronyms, the terminologies that are very technical in order for the communities to understand,” she said.
The campaign will use educational videos, social media, television and radio features, brochures, flyers and infographics. Community and stakeholder engagement activities will also be held throughout the nine-month campaign.
