Taiwan’s Foreign Minister to Arrive in Belize, What’s on the Itinerary?
Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung is expected to arrive in Belize to lead a business delegation of more than 30 representatives.
Lin is expected to meet Prime Minister John Briceño, Governor-General Froyla Tzalam and Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca during his visit. He will also sign a joint communique and an agreement with Fonseca on diplomatic personnel training and exchanges.
He will also inspect three Taiwan-funded projects on the ground: the San Pedro Hospital under construction, a 50-unit social housing project, and the proposed site of the Taiwan-Caribbean Prosperity Academy.
According to Taiwanese news outlets, the delegation brings representatives from green energy, smart transportation, artificial intelligence, space technology, biotechnology, healthcare, tourism, finance and trade. The US-Taiwan Business Council is also taking part.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry has framed the visit under a “flying geese” economic development model, with an objective to use Belize’s geographic position to connect Taiwan with markets across North America, Latin America, the Pacific and the Caribbean.
Lin is also scheduled to travel on to Guatemala, where he will meet President Bernardo Arévalo, preside over renovations at Guatemala’s foreign ministry, and inaugurate a monitoring and emergency response centre at La Aurora International Airport.
Lin took office in May 2024 and has led similar delegations to Taiwan’s diplomatic allies worldwide under the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project.
