BREAKING: Men Accused of Killing “Tanga” Walk Free After Key Witness Vanishes

Two men charged in connection with the 2022 murder of Winston Joseph James, known as “Tanga,” and the attempted murder of his girlfriend, walked free from the High Court this morning after the DPP entered a nolle prosequi in their case.

Azzane Domingo, 23, and Eustace Lewis, 36, both associates from the George Street area, were served with the nolle prosequi shortly before 10am, at what was supposed to be the start of their trial.

The move came after the case’s key witness, Shemaud Nunez, also known as “Sabe,” could not be located. Last Thursday, the crown asked Justice Candace Nanton for time to find him, but police searches over the following five days turned up nothing.

A nolle prosequi means the crown has discontinued the case, but it is not an acquittal, prosecutors can revive the charges later if sufficient evidence becomes available.

Tanga was shot and killed on January 21, 2022, while driving with Wade in a Nissan Pathfinder. He died at the scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, crashing his vehicle into a building near the canal. Domingo was initially identified as the suspected shooter, while Lewis was charged in 2024 with abetment to murder.

Video footage of the incident exists, but only captured Tanga leaving his attorney’s office on Church Street, crossing the bridge, and getting into his vehicle before the shooting began. The distance between the camera and the actual shooting location made the shooter’s identity impossible to determine, even after the footage was enhanced.
