Mayor Calls for Probe into Alleged Election Irregularities

Earl Trapp is calling for a formal investigation into alleged electoral irregularities in Polling Area 73, which covers roughly half of the voters in San Ignacio/Santa Elena. In a letter dated September 29, his attorney, Darrell Bradley, asks Josefine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer, to investigate the voters’ list and the conduct of the March 12, 2025 General Election. The complaint alleges that unusually large numbers of people registered at several addresses, including 34 people at one home. Trapp’s team claims that as many as 700 names on the voters’ list may be ineligible, but that allegation has not been independently verified. The letter also says a magistrate ordered 23 names removed from the list after questioning whether that many people lived at one bungalow. According to the complaint, those names remained on the list, and several of those voters reportedly participated in the 2025 election. Trapp is also raising concerns about delayed access for opposition scrutineers, alleged irregular proxy voting, political music near polling stations and claims that some voters cast ballots under direct supervision. The letter further cites a reported 27 percent increase in votes cast at Polling Area 73 between the 2024 municipal and 2025 general elections. Bradley is requesting an audit of the voters’ list, an investigation into election-day procedures and independent observers for the March 3, 2027 municipal elections. The complaint asks the Elections and Boundaries Department to provide a written response outlining its findings and any corrective measures it plans to take.
