Belize’s Economy Grows, but Warning Signs Emerge
There is some encouraging news in the latest economic figures, but the numbers also come with a note of caution. Belize’s economy grew by two-point-nine percent in 2025, representing an increase of approximately one hundred and fifty million dollars. The primary and tertiary sectors, along with tax collections, powered that expansion. GDP also grew during the second quarter of 2026, but by a more modest one-point-four percent, as declines in the primary and secondary sectors slowed the pace.

“We can see that the largest drives were wholesale and retail trade, taxes, public administration and other service activities. With agriculture and manufacturing, construction has been the largest contraction for this quarter. Moving on into the primary sector, the goods totaled a hundred and sixteen seven million. This is a decrease of seven point six million or six point one percent, compared to the a hundred and twenty-four point two million in quarter two of 2025.”
Both the primary and secondary sectors saw a just over six percent decrease in production, while the tertiary sector increased by a little over three percent.
