Two Men Slapped With Firearm Charge

Benjamin Eduardo Garcia and Sergio Martinez Ramirez were arrested and charged on Sunday with “discharging a firearm in public.”

According to reports, Belize City police officers reportedly heard several gunshots as they got out of their mobile patrol vehicle on the Philip Goldson Highway. Officers also saw a grey Ford F-250 pickup truck driving away along the highway, and a pursuit began.

Officers from GI3 and Precinct 3, who were in the area helped stop the vehicle.

Police say two men got out of the pickup. One was a 36-year-old Mexican businessman of Hopkins Village. The other was Garcia, whom police described as a well-known social media creator with B Media Group.

Officers asked both men whether they had anything to declare. According to the report, Garcia told officers he had a licensed 9mm firearm in the car.

Police say the firearm was found and cleared in Garcia’s presence. One round was in the chamber, and 11 rounds were in the magazine.
