Rosado’s Constitutional Challenge Put on Hold

Today a constitutional review filed at the High Court by Senior Counsel Eamon Courtenay on behalf of Ambassador Alexis Rosado was adjourned to a date to be determined. Attorney for Ambassador Rosado filed the claim after the trial judge in a rape case against him decided to proceed with the matter even after his attorney failed to show up. Courtenay claims that Rosado’s constitutional right to legal representation was breached when the judge refused to grant an adjournment to allow him an opportunity to find counsel. Courtenay was set to make arguments in the constitutional claim before Justice Derick Sylvester in Belize City today but since the criminal matter was adjourned to Friday, October sixteenth, today’s hearing was adjourned. If Ambassador Rosado’s legal representation issues are worked out at trial in Belmopan on Friday, the constitutional claim could possibly be withdrawn.
