Corozal Football Association Says Murder Did Not Happen at Its Matches
The Corozal Football Association (CFA) says the deadly shooting on the Philip Goldson Highway on Sunday did not take place at its matches.
The CFA said it is deeply saddened by the violence. It said it wanted to address misinformation on certain media pages suggesting the incident happened during its First Division matches.
“This incident did not occur at our matches,” the association said.
Thirty-five-year-old Lionel Logan was killed and two others, including a little girl, were injured when gunmen fired on an SUV near Carolina Village on Sunday evening. Police say Logan and Julian Dyer, who is in stable condition, had left a football game before the shooting. Police have not said which match it was, and have not established a motive.
The CFA said the safety of its players, match officials and supporters remains a priority. It said its playing field and the area around it continue to be a safe environment, with police on hand to help keep order, and that weapons are prohibited at or near its matches under the law.
The CFA said it remains committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who supports football in the district.
