Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Missing Belize City Man
Police have detained a man and impounded a pickup truck as part of an ongoing investigation into a hit-and-run that claimed the life of 21-year-old Jamir Arana of Belize City.
“The investigation commenced at approximately 5.30 a.m. today, 22nd October 2026 when police were advised of the presence of the body of a male person, which was unresponsive,” said ASP Stacy Smith.
“A further search a few miles away led to the discovery of the impounded vehicle and the subsequent apprehension of the male person of interest,” she said.
Arana, who had been diagnosed with autism, was reported missing on Wednesday night after leaving his mother’s care in Belize City.
Smith said a review of social media posts suggested that Arana had been seen on a bus travelling towards Belmopan and was later seen within the city limits.
The investigation into Arana’s death remains ongoing.
