SOE Brings Overnight Curfew for Minors
Unaccompanied minors under the age of eighteen will be subject to an overnight curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in areas affected by the newly declared State of Emergency.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Bart Jones says the restriction is intended to discourage minors from being out late at night, while allowing adults to continue their normal activities without a general curfew.
“Your business, as usual, can go about your respective business.” He added that the restriction applies only to minors who are unaccompanied by an adult.
Jones said officers will focus on getting minors home safely rather than charging them for violating the curfew.
“If you could have your child inside, we will certainly not resort to charging, but to discourage and have them call the parents in and have them escorted home,” Jones said.
The restrictions form part of the 30-day State of Emergency covering south side Belize City, Ladyville, Unitedville, and Cotton Tree Village.
