Trump Celebrates July 4 with Passage of ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

President Donald Trump scored his first major legislative victory of his second term after the House passed a sweeping domestic policy bill on 3 July.

Trump celebrated the bill at a rally in Iowa, stating, “There could be no better birthday present for America than the phenomenal victory we achieved just hours ago when Congress passed the ‘one big, beautiful bill’ to ‘Make America Great Again.'”

Trump had initially set a July 4 deadline for the bill’s passage but softened that stance as the legislation faced multiple hurdles in Congress.

According to CNN, the bill makes permanent the 2017 tax cuts, raises standard deductions, and introduces significant reductions to Medicaid and food assistance programmes. It adds strict work requirements for Medicaid and SNAP beneficiaries while offering expanded deductions for older Americans on Social Security income.

The legislation also increases military spending by $150 billion and allocates $100 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), effectively doubling migrant detention capacity and expanding border enforcement. It includes funding for Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” missile defence system.
