Forty-five-year-old Denton Flowers of Consuelo Street, Belize City, was arraigned this morning before Magistrate Ludlow Black on a single charge of abetment to commit robbery. Police say Flowers confessed to picking up two men at the corner of Dean Street and Amara Avenue and transporting them to the West Landivar area, just moments after a brazen heist unfolded in the heart of the city. The robbery occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Monday at the busy intersection of Regent and Bishop Streets. According to police, two men dressed in orange reflective vests and fisherman hats blocked the path of forty-two-year-old Samuel Sho, a messenger for Doony’s, as he rode his motorcycle. One of the men reportedly pulled a firearm, cocked it, and demanded Sho’s sling bag, containing twenty thousand, five hundred dollars in cash. Sho complied, and the robbers fled the scene on bicycles. But their escape didn’t go unnoticed. Police reviewed surveillance footage from their camera room and spotted the suspects entering a yard at Amara Avenue and Dean Street before boarding a white Isuzu Rodeo, allegedly driven by Flowers. Based on the footage and Flowers’ own admission, investigators charged him with aiding and encouraging the commission of the robbery. At his arraignment, Flowers appeared unrepresented and was denied bail. He was informed that he may apply for bail through the High Court. For now, Denton Flowers is remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October ninth, as the investigation continues into what police believe was a coordinated getaway.
