Police Crack Down on Illegal Knife Possession Amid Rise in Violent Attacks

Here’s a serious warning from law enforcement. Police are stepping up their efforts to tackle the illegal possession of knives, a response to a growing number of stabbing and chopping incidents across the country. In Belize, carrying a knife with a blade longer than three inches between eight p.m. and five a.m., or during public events, is strictly prohibited unless you have a lawful reason. Violators could face fines of up to five hundred dollars or even six months behind bars. Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado says he’s issued firm instructions to commanders to crack down on offenders. So, if you’re heading out tonight, think twice before packing a blade.

“Any incident that involves violence is of concern to us and I have instructed my commanders to ensure that we target those instruments, especially at night, or during the time that it is not permitted to be. But it is of concern to us once it involves violence, it is of concern to us.”
