Regional Migration Talks Could Include Belize

And what about migration? Could Belizeans and Guatemalans using Mexico as a route to the U.S. be part of the conversation? Or maybe even a regional plan to tackle illegal migration together? We put those questions to Prime Minister Briceño to find out if that’s on the table.

“Obviously migration is of grave concern to us. But since the Trump administration has come down harshly on migration it has trickled down. So, it is not as serious an issue. but we have to always be mindful of what the Trump administration is doing and how it will affect us. So, that is something we have to look at as a region in Belize. And I think it is something that will affect them more, Guatemala and Mexico. They have far larger number than Belize.”
