PSU Demands Sweeping Reforms to Restore Public Trust
The Public Service Union is urging government to implement sweeping changes aimed at improving governance and accountability. In a formal paper to Cabinet, PSU President Dean Flowers called for stronger anti-corruption measures, better management of public resources, and reforms to ensure greater transparency in decision-making. The union also pressed for improved working conditions for public officers and a renewed commitment to merit-based appointments. Flowers says these steps are critical to restoring public trust and strengthening the public service.

“We want to the government to first and foremost recognize that when the public service union speak we speak for all on behalf of members within the Belize tax services department and the wider employees who also assisted with this paper but who may not necessarily be members of the union and the first thing we are asking the government is to recognize that as it relates now to the specific recommendation of course we would have said to the government that it is important that we halt the transition process and that we suspend all actions toward SARA implementation until a resolution is reached or until the Belizean people the public service union and the workers we represent can get a clearer picture and a clearer understanding of why we are going where they are proposing we go and how exactly we get there in the smoothest of fashion that will not disrupt public services or disrupt the livelihood of the officers in there”
