Salary Adjustments Stir Discontent in BDF

While the Ministry of National Defense insists that no salaries have been cut, one soldier tells News Five that morale is low, and it’s not just him. He says his fellow service members are feeling the same way, frustrated and demoralized by the recent salary adjustment.

Voice of: BDF Soldier

“Majority of my colleagues, they are frustrated, stressed and demoralized because this cut here was not expected from nobody and, to be honest, me, personally, I’m looking to retire in the next year and a half. Now earning fifty-eight dollars per day when you add per month, instead of going home after working twenty-two years in the BDF, I might go home with nothing. The more time you have in the BDF is a more bigger loss since it’s only affecting people that are in the job for ten, twelve, fifteen and twenty years. Those are the ones most affected because younger soldiers that are in the job recent, they’re not getting this type of deduction. Mostly senior officers and high-ranking, because this affects from sergeant majors, going down, like sergeants, corporals, lance corporals and senior privates, that’s the ranking structure that has been getting affected right now.”
