Businesses Step In Amid A&R JanSport Backlash

Businessman Said Perdomo has weighed in on the controversy surrounding A&R’s concerns about the distribution of JanSport school bags.

“You got two sides of the story. I am a businessman, and at the end of the day, I know what A&R is going through when you’re building a brand and you see fakes out there. I know that that undercuts you,” Perdomo told News 5.

At the same time, Perdomo stood firmly behind Superintendent Aaron Gamboa for recently giving back-to-school backpacks to children in high-risk neighbourhoods.

“Mind, that man is giving to poor people, to people who can’t afford; that’s something that nobody is doing. How is he going to benefit from that? He’s not running for politics. He soon done. He only has like 2-3 more years left in the force. That man is doing that from his heart,” Perdomo added.

Perdomo said this may have started as a “joke” on social media after he posted that he’s willing to purchase 250 JanSport bags if A&R matches the quantity, but the intention exploded into something bigger when other business owners pledged to do the same.

“Then my friend Kelvin from Vins Liquors, he commented that he’ll do the same thing We come up with $13,000, and we might get two more, and we’re gonna put that towards bags, pens, and pencils, and then A&R will match that,” he said.

“we might touch 1000 picni, we don’t know yet.”

Amid the public uproar, A&R issued a statement earlier today to apologise to the people of Belize for any misunderstanding or offence caused and said that it never intended to diminish the work of leaders, police officers, or organisations supporting students in need.

The company also doubled down on its warning of counterfeit bags and stressed its duty to protect the brand’s authenticity.
