Police are investigating a stabbing on Raccoon Street Extension in Belize City that left a 34-year-old man injured on Tuesday morning. Authorities reported receiving an alert at approximately 3:45 a.m. and rushed to the scene.

The victim, Belizean labourer Yuri Keith Escalante, was found with multiple stab wounds.

Escalante has since shared details of the attack on social media. “What happened is he was waiting at my neighbour’s gate with a pint bottle and stooping down in the dark. “So now, I walked on the sidewalk to see,” he said. “He knows me, he knows my name; he said ‘Yuri, What’s up. Let’s go in the yard by Deron’s house.’ I said, but you and him don’t hang out. I tell him no, I’m fine.”

He added that as he walked back into his yard, the attacker charged at him. “He run charged at me and stabbed me in my back first. That’s how I spun around, and he gave me a stab by my neck, my chin, and a part of my ear, and we were tussling.”

Police have not confirmed any arrests. Escalante is reported to be in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
