From Belize to Brazil, one of our very own athletes is living his dream. Belizean volleyball standout Ernest Broaster has officially gone pro, signing a one-year contract with a state team in Brazil. After wrapping up his studies in the U.S., Broaster linked up with a sports agent who helped make this big move happen. It’s a dream he’s had since he first picked up a volleyball, and now, it’s reality. We caught up with him in Brazil to hear all about this incredible opportunity.

“He then got back to me like a month later saying that a team in Brazil would like to do a one-year contract with me. And that is how this opportunity came about. I am so grateful for it, because since I started playing volleyball, I said I wanted to be a professional player. So, I am making as much of it as I can, because the championships begin in October, October 24th. So, that month and a half to prepare myself for that. It takes a lot of work, especially for someone like me that is not tall, like six four and above. You have to put in extra work because I am on the shorter side. My teammates on the team, I have to look out, because they are some big guys and I have to put in that extra work in the gym and get some extra reps in practice as well, training year in, year out, barely getting any rest. One time my dad asked me if I wanted to go to the states for a trip, I told him no I want to practice. I am very motivated. I have a lot on my shoulders. I have a lot to prove. So, I am putting in that work every day.”
