Prime Minister Briceño Takes Action in Budna Investigation

Prime Minister John Briceño has taken steps in response to the ongoing investigation into the Budna matter, following receipt of an incomplete report from the Police Department last Friday.

The report, submitted by Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa, was deemed unsatisfactory by the Prime Minister, prompting immediate administrative actions. Dr. Richard Rosado, Commissioner of Police, has been directed to proceed on a 45-day leave of absence, effective immediately. This move comes amid heightened public interest and serious allegations surrounding the case.

Deputy Commissioner Bart Jones has been appointed Acting Commissioner during Dr. Rosado’s absence. Both officials have assured Minister Musa of their full cooperation to ensure uninterrupted operations within the Police Department. Additionally, Officer Barrington Flowers was placed on interdiction as of September 7, based on findings from the preliminary report. Acting Commissioner Jones has tasked Deputy Commissioner Suzzette Anderson with completing the investigation and submitting a comprehensive report as soon as possible.

Prime Minister Briceño said, “Today’s decisions are a result of public information and the preliminary report regarding the Budna matter. Commissioner Rosado is acknowledged for his readiness to commence on a leave of absence to allow the Budna investigation to be completed free from any suggestion of conflicts or influence,” says Prime Minister Briceño. “The rule of law and the reputation of the Police Department are of foremost consideration.”

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Police Department are expected to continue to provide periodic updates as the investigation progresses.
