Opposition’s Lee Mark Chang Raises Alarm on Inflation Crisis
From the rising price of bread to the soaring cost of fuel, it’s clear that Belizeans are really feeling the pinch of inflation. At Monday’s opposition press conference, Lee Mark Chang highlighted just how steep food prices have climbed, with bread alone up more than thirty percent. The cost of living is hitting families hard, and Chang says we shouldn’t have to accept that food and basic necessities are simply too expensive.

“Even chicken, dih go up. Fruits and juices up 11.7%. Also in July, water, 10.7%. Imagine, water dih go up, but nuh soft drink. Don’t believe me? Check the Amandala and the SIB reports. Also of note, housing is through the roof, and I mean, through the roof. And the economy is only getting weaker, with weak, weak, overnight tourists and the agriculture sector. There is no hope for sugar in sight. Tourist hotspots is literally dead, DED, dead. If this is the stay pan track inflation government we have, we need to take them off track.“We should not have to choose between buying medicine and buying food or basic necessities. We should not have to watch our children go hungry. We should not have to accept that food and basic necessities is too expensive for the Belizean family. The well-being of our people is, first and foremost, that is the government’s job.”
